Does access to the site affect the cost?

The Treehouse Guide Cost and Budget

Access is one of the most overlooked factors when estimating the cost of a treehouse. A spot hidden at the bottom of a large garden or tucked into woodland might be perfect from a design point of view, but getting timber, tools and equipment there can be considerably harder.

What makes a site difficult to reach

  • A long distance from the nearest vehicle access
  • Narrow gates or restricted entrances
  • Steep slopes
  • Steps or difficult terrain
  • Woodland
  • Wet or soft ground
  • Limited space for storing materials

In some circumstances specialist equipment is needed. Difficult access increases the labour involved and can mean extra kit, which is one reason two treehouses of identical size can have very different construction costs. The easier it is for the team to get materials and equipment to the site, the more efficiently we can work.

Questions people ask

Yes, and some of our favourite treehouses are in woodland. Access needs planning, and it can affect the cost, so it is one of the first things we look at on a survey.
